The Brotherhood was established in 1939, in the middle of the spanish postwar period. During this time, some of the six historical brotherhoods were extinguished. For the next fifty years, there were no new brotherhoods created. The brotherhood, los Estudiantes, is the oldest from the twentieth century.
1939. The brotherhood was created by young students, in the memory of the priest, Father Franco. This was an attempt to introduce the youth to the confrades. The confrades were previously reserved for adults of social prestige. In the beginning, los Estudiantes, had an age limit to participate in their brotherhood. Once this age limit had been reached, the members joined the brotherhood, Vera Cruz. Vera Cruz was within the same Parish. Los Estudiantes served as a great help to their dear and close brotherhood of Vera Cruz.
Our Brotherhood was originated, at first, around a small image, the venerated Church of the Christ, under the invocation of Jesus of the Afflicted ones, and who came from the extinguished chapel of the Gentleman of Humility, in the Zaporito *.

In 2002, the mystery with the image of San Juan Evangelista is completed, work of D. Jesu's Méndez Lastrucci. In 2003 it obtains Letter of Brotherhood with the Order of Preachers, Dominican friars of the province of Andalusia.
Always worried about the artistic patrimony, the renovation of the equipment is already begun, becoming of orfebrería repujadas in the Sevillian factories. One begins with the opening of the crown of the Virgin in 1954 and two years but late the silver dagger, two horns, two lights of guide was released and twig of Older Brother. In 1960 the first golden step of the Brotherhood, left the factories of Bald Perez is released. In 1993 it releases the present step neobaroque and golden work of D. Antonio Martín (it carves), D. Manuel Carmona (imaginerías) and D. Francisco Bailac (ebanistería). It was finished in the year of 2002.
In the first the 90 years of the Brotherhood considers to define its personality as brotherhood of classic cut, also call tail brotherhood, reason why is adopted several changes that were at first not understood by some sectors. It is created the Chair Thin Jose Maria Frank, from that numerous cultural acts become, emphasizing the National Contest Literary, from 1975, and the Cycle of Conferences organized around the festividad of Santo Tomás de Aquino, from 1993.
In 2004 it is recognized to him like Titling of the Brotherhood, to Santo Tomás de Aquino, pattern of the students.
